2179. John B. WITMER

John B. Witmer was one of the executors of his father's will and by that will
he came into possession of 47 acres that adjoined the Columbia Pike on which he
erected a brick house in 1849. By 1860 he was located in Antrim Twp., Franklin
Co., Penn. In 1892 he was living in Greencastle, Penn., when his sister Anna
B. Witmer died.


2181. Jacob B. WITMER

By 1850 J. B. Witmer was a physician in Greencastle, Penn. His death and the
death of his daughter Mary E. were noted in the "Lancaster Intelligencer"on
april 11, 1854. In a will proved in Franklin Co., Jacob Witmer mentions "my
second daughter" in addition to his wife Mary Ellen (Will F-40, Franklin co.
Courthouse, Chambersburg, Penn.). At the time of the 1880 census Mary E. Witmer
was boarding in lancaster.

2182. David Meiers WITMER

In 1870 Sarah Witmer and three of her children living East Hempfield Twp. with
Sarah's widowed mother. In 1880 the children David and Kate were living at the
Soldier's Orphan School in Mount Joy, Penn., while Sarah and her daughters
Zenia and Mary were living in Sprinville, now a part of Mount Joy. About 1914
Sarah moved to Lancaster but continued to be a member of the Mount Joy Lutheran
Church.


2184. Abraham R. WITMER

For seven years Abraham Witmer taught school in Manor Twp., Lancaster Co.,
Penn. He then began a long career as a scrivener, surveyor, and Justice of
the Peace at his home near Safe Harbor, Penn. This information was taken from "Biographical Annals of Lancaster Co., Penn., Containing Biographical and Genealogical sketches of Prominent and Representative Citizens and Many of the Early Settler" pp. 544-548.

5610. Ellen B. WITMER

Ellen never married. and in her later life she lived with her sister, Annie.
She was greatly interested in, and devotes much of her time and aid to church,
missionary and Sunday-school work.

Elizabeth and Joseph were married in Lancaster Co. and were farming Joseph's
father's farm in Manor Twp. in 1850. When Joseph's father died in 1852 they
inherited 75 acres adjoing Habecker Mennonite Church in Manor Twp. and
continued there until 1865. In that year the family moved to Canton, Ohio,
where the children were living in 1910.

Elizabeth and Joseph were married in Lancaster Co. and were farming Joseph's

2188. Jacob Rooker WITMER Lieut.

Jacob R. served as a Lieutenant during the Civil War. After the war he went
to Jasper Co., Iowa, where he established a saw mill. Information taken from
"History of Jasper Co., Iowa", p. 623.
Jacob came to Jasper Co., Iowa, in 1866 and here launched in the lumber business, running a saw mill and maintaining a lumber yard, and here he resided until his death.
