Daniel built a mill on the right bank of Mad River, and below the mouth of Buck Creek. Samuel Huffman, Daniel's son-in-law, became the owner following Daniel's death.
On Oct 10, 1867, between the hours of 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning Daniel's home was entered by a party of burglars. He was promptly awakened, and a conflict ensued, which resulted fatally to him from a gun-shot wound in the leg. Four persons were arrested for this crime--two were acquitted, and two others (Scott and Roberts) escaped through the open door of the jail, and have never been recaptured.1850 New Carlisle, Clark Co., Ohio Census
