Dr. John Witmer received 150 acres along the Columbia Pike in Manor Twp.,
Lancaster Co., Penn., from his father in 1811 (Deed 7-490, Lancaster, Penn.).
In 1816 John and Anna built a large brick house next to the old spring house on
this farm. Here he worked as a local doctor and a farmer. His will is dated
Dec 9 1847 (Will U-1-456, Lancaster).

Anna was living with her widowed sister Mary Hostetter in Landisville in 1880.
In 1887 she purchased a house and lot in Landisville and spent the rest of her

665. Jacob S. WITMER
Jacob S. Witmer received a share of his father's farm in Manor Twp., LancasterCo., Penn., and resided there until 1837 when he sold his share to his brother, Dr. John Witmer and purchased another farm in the western part of the township.
Here the family resided until 1865 when Jacob sold the farm and retired to
Millersville (Deed K-9-472, Lancaster Co., Penn.). An interesting item in the accounts of Jacob's estate shows money spent in 1890 for "tombstones for
ancestors." This accounts for the row of gravestones for Witmers located in
the Masonville Mennonite Cemetery: John (1682-1728), Michael (1719-1789), Herman (1753-1829) and Jacob S. (1804-1890). Jacob S. left a will that was proved on July 1, 1890 (Will I-2-286, Lancaster Co., Penn.).1850, 1860 Manor Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania Census

667. Abraham WITMER
Abraham was a Mennonite bishop. He was ordained to the ministry in the early
decades of the 1800's and later became bishop for the district.Abraham obtained land from his father in Chapman Twp., Snyder Co.,
Pennsylvania (Deed H-397, Uniion Co. Courthouse, Lewisburg, Pennslyvania)
across the Mahantango Creek from his father's house, where he built a stone
house that is still standing (1988).

In 1850 Adam and Susan were living in Susquehanna Twp., Dauphin Co.,
Pennsylvania. By 1860 they had moved to Barree Twp., Huntindon Co.,
Pennsylvania. In 1870 Susan was a widow living Petersburg, Huntingdon Co.,
Pennsylvania. In 1900 she was living in Altoona.
Magdalena had at least two Risser children when she married Abraham. After
Abraham died, she married Michael Bashore who had a number of children be fore
he married Magdalena. The Witmer, Risser, and Bashore children were all raised
together in Abraham Witmer's house in Snyder Co., Pennsylvania.
