Michael's will was dated Aug 27, 1789 (Will X-2-92, Lancaster), inv. dated
Sept 18, 1789.In a 1756 deed Michael received the family farm of 212 acres in Manor Twp.
from his mother, his two sisters, and their husbands. His will left a farm to
each of his three sons, made provision for his widow, and left shares to his
daughter Anna and to his grandson Jacob, son of his deceased daughter Mary
Knopp.In 1772 Michael purchased a tract of land containing 230 acres called the Mill
Range, for which he obtained a patent on September 11, 1773. He probably never
resided on this land because he lived and died in Manor Twp. He also purchased
a 150-acre tract of land from Rudolph Shmelzer. On this tract he erected a
mill, sawmill, and distillery, which in 1790 was assessed to his son, John
Witmer. This mill property had been willed to John by his father but was not
conveyed to him until March 2, 1793 (Deed G-427, Mifflin Co. Courthouse,
Lewistown, Penn; "Susquehanna and Juniata Valleys, 1:892, 2:1550.)
149. Abraham WITMER
Abraham inherited 166 acres in Chapman Twp., Snyder Co., Penn., from his
father. He left a will (Will A-272, Lewisburg) providing a life estate to his widow and after her death both his and his wife's nephews and nieces were to share in the estate. In 1845 a court in Lancaster settled the estate. The distribution involved many widely scattered family members. The farm was sold (Deed M-231, Lewisburg) to Jacob R. Witmer, son of Abraham's brother Herman.Abraham and Maria never had any children.

Scheler, who lived in Richmond Co., Ohio. It is also said that this Elizabeth
Long was married to Joseph Hershey, on March 17 1792. However, neigher of the
above records could be verified.Elizabeth is listed in her father's will.
30. Herman LONG

It states that after Feronica died, Herman married Elizabeth Gearinger, a widow
with two orphaned children. This third marriage was met with opposition
because Herman was a member of the Mennonite Church and Elizabeth was not, so a
marriage settlement was set in 1798. Herman's will of January 6, 1804, which
was offered for probate October 24, 1804, was contested because he died with a
considerable estate and all of his children were not mentioned in the will. A
settlement was agreed upon on March 6, 1810, when the eleven living heirs
divided the properties. One of the orphaned children Elizabeth Gearinger was

operated a farm. It is also recorded that Martin Long resided in the Nittany
Valley near Mill Hall, above Harrisburg, Penn.Martin had three children, Martin, Martha, and Conrad. It is not clear which
wife was the mother of which children. Conrad was married and had eight
children, Emma married to Solomon Tice, Willila, John, Fannie, Maria, Barbara,
Joseph, Jacob.
When Elizabeth married Herman Long she was a widow and had two orphaned
children.

He left his plantation to his oldest son, Joseph; land in Manor Twp. to Christian; land in Donegal Twp. to Andrew; land in Lampeter Twp. to Abraham; and land in Manor Twp. to Catherine who was now married to her second husband, Christian Kauffman. Money was also left to Catherine's children by her first marriage to Peter Bauman. They were listed as Christian, Mary and Peter Bauman.

Last Will and Testament of John Hershey probated in Washington Co., Maryland,
on 16 May 1811Last Will and Testament of Andrew Hershey in Lancaster Co., Penn, on 22 Mar
1792. This lists John as a son of Andrew.John was a Mennonite minister for a sort time and located with his family near
present-day Harrisburg. By 1791 he had transferred to the United Brethren
Church. In 1793 he moved to Beaver Creek in Washington County, Maryland, where
he continued as a minister in the United Brethren Church. Isaac, John's
brother, also moved to Maryland at this same time along with some of both
families.
